Apple Business Connect for Accounting Firms: Fixing the Listing Most Practices Have Never Touched
Every accounting firm we talk to has an opinion on their Google Business Profile. Almost none of them know Apple Business Connect exists, let alone that it's been quietly sitting unclaimed since Apple rolled it out in 2022. 💖 That's a real gap, because a meaningful slice of your prospective clients — the ones searching "accountant near me" through Siri, CarPlay, or Apple Maps directly — are being shown whatever scraps of information Apple could scrape from old directories, which for most firms means an outdated address, no photos, and zero services listed.
What most firms get wrong
The most common assumption is that Apple Maps somehow syncs with Google Business Profile, or updates itself from your website. It doesn't. Apple builds its own map data from a mix of licensed sources and whatever business owners have actually claimed and verified through Apple Business Connect. If you've moved offices, changed phone numbers, or opened a second location in the last few years and never touched Apple's side of things, there's a real chance your firm is showing the wrong address to anyone using an iPhone to find you — which, depending on your client demographic, could be a genuinely large share of local searches.
- Claim it: Go to businessconnect.apple.com and sign in with (or create) an Apple ID for the business. Search for your firm; if a placeholder listing already exists, claim it rather than creating a duplicate.
- Verify it: Apple typically verifies by phone call/text to your listed business number, or occasionally by postcard to your address. Phone verification is usually near-instant; postcard verification can take one to two weeks.
- Fix the basics: Business name (exactly as it appears on your signage and website), current address, phone number, website URL and hours — including any seasonal changes around tax time.
- Pick the right category: "Accountant" or "Tax Preparation Service" depending on what best matches your primary offering — this affects which searches you surface for.
- Build the Showcase: Add your logo, a cover photo, four to six interior/team photos, a short description, and list core services (tax returns, BAS, SMSF advice, business advisory — whatever genuinely applies).
- Add Highlights: Apple lets you tag attributes like "wheelchair accessible" or "free parking" — small details that matter more than people expect when someone's deciding whether to visit in person.
- Link your socials: Connect Instagram and Facebook if you use them, so Apple Maps visitors can see recent activity.
How to actually set it up (and keep it accurate)
Start with a single Apple ID registered to the business, not a partner's personal account — this matters if that partner ever leaves the firm. Verification is the only genuinely slow step; phone verification is instant in most cases, so use that where it's offered rather than waiting on a mailed postcard. Once verified, treat the Showcase section the way you'd treat a mini landing page: services listed clearly, photos that actually look like your office (not stock imagery), and a description written for a human, not stuffed with keywords. If you operate more than one location, each branch needs its own claimed and verified listing — Apple doesn't automatically create child listings from a head office profile. Set a calendar reminder every six months to check hours, especially around EOFY when many firms extend opening hours or run Saturday appointments.
Mistakes to avoid
- Assuming it's automatically synced with Google. It isn't — each platform needs its own claim, verification and updates.
- Leaving the listing bare after claiming it. An unclaimed listing shows scraped data; a claimed-but-empty listing can look even less trustworthy, with no photos or services to back up the name.
- Forgetting to update it after an office move. This is the single most common failure we see, and the one most likely to actively cost you a client.
- Not claiming every branch separately for multi-location firms. A head office listing does not automatically cover a second site.
- Treating it as set-and-forget. Apple Business Connect includes basic insights (views, direction requests) worth checking occasionally — ignoring them means you'll never know if something's broken.
Frequently asked questions
Is Apple Business Connect actually free?
Yes, there's no cost to claim, verify or maintain a listing.
Will this help our Google search rankings?
No — and this is worth being honest about. Apple Maps and Google are entirely separate ecosystems with no ranking crossover. This is purely about accuracy and visibility within Apple's own search surfaces (Maps, Siri, Wallet, CarPlay), not a Google SEO tactic.
How long does verification actually take?
Phone or text verification is usually near-instant. Postcard verification, when that's the only option offered, can take one to two weeks, so don't leave it until the week before an office move if you can help it.
Is this worth the time for a small, single-partner practice?
Yes — arguably more so, since a smaller firm has less existing digital footprint to fall back on if one directory is wrong. Twenty minutes for a permanent, low-maintenance improvement is a reasonable trade either way.
